'Life in the modern world, without music would be quite plain and boring.' some would say. This might be true but why is it that the more that I watch these talent shows, the less that I recognise the song that they are singing?
Often the show tells you the name of the song and the artist and most of the time I would know what the song should sound like. All of a sudden they hit you with the first note and they trough it about, wavering, off beat and most of the time not in tune (sometimes deliberately). Also you get a lot (and I do mean a lot) of whooing and yeas' put into the songs (often in the end of the song and not part of the song). This is because the people on the stage thinks that is the only way that they can make the song 'there own'. Also it is what the judges want half of the time.
You do get some that do actually sound really good and don't do much wavering and whooing but very rarely they get past the first or second round. If you imagine a successful modern solo artist e.g. Lana Del Rey, Adele, Ed Sheeran, James Blake, Emeli Sandé and so on, going onto one of these talent shows, they wont be able to get to the finals because their 'tenical ability' was not good enough or that they didn't make the song 'their own'.
And I don't remember much wavering in the voice from The Beatles, The Band, The Who, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, unless the vinyl was warped or the tape player was damaged.
To be fair, the vinyl usually *was* warped -- but at least all the pitches went up and down together.
